I admired his talent, creativity and sensitivity to the Motown legacy and I’m proud to see him now contribute to the storied tradition of the Dramatists Play Service.”

If you haven’t heard of him until now there is no better place to start than these three astonishingly varied plays, graciously furnished by Dramatists Play Service. Let the feast begin.”

David wrote book & original lyrics for the Broadway/West End hit musical at the right hand of Motown founder Berry Gordy and with Broadway legend Dick Scanlan. Motown The Musical was nominated for four Tony Awards and spawned two National and UK tours.
David wrote the lyrics for the climactic number of the smash hit Disney’s Descendants trilogy, “My Once Upon A Time.” With music by David’s collaborator on Five Women At An Airport, Emmy Award-winning composer John Kavanaugh and sung by Dove Cameron, the song was nominated with the album for a Billboard Music Award for Top Soundtrack.
David wrote the lyrics for the song “Up Against The Wind” that plays under Queen Latifah’s death scene in the classic film. With music by Christopher Young and originally recorded by Lori Perry, the lyrics have been heavily sampled in over 20 rap songs, including those by Drake, Li’l Baby and Busta Rhymes.
